Whenever I tire of my rose colored glasses

Whenever I tire of my rose colored glasses, or vaseline smeared lenses, and want to take a long and sober look around I come to the same conclusion - people are shit. Wait, let me rephrase that. It's not that all people are shit, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that most people are shit. Everywhere you look there are people taking all they can carry and still running back for more. We've got to have goddamn laws just to get the apes to not club each other to death because somebody slept with somebody else or somebody's car is shinier than the other guy's. And these are not new problems. Oh no, they've been with us for a long time. Which brings me to intelligence. I think that it's a reasonable assertion that truly intelligent people learn from their mistakes - right? I mean, that's what math and art are all about. You try something, it fails, you note that, and then try something different. Eventually you figure it all out or discover something new. But people, in general, are still dealing with the same goddamn problems they were having 5,000 years ago. So, yeah, people are shit and I've just about had it with them all.

Now, this doesn't mean that I go around angry all the time or that I've got some sort of chip on my shoulder against humanity; it just means that I don't have much faith in societal conventions and institutions. I mean, they weren't designed by me for me - they are relics relative to the archaic minds of the masses. And if you've gotten this far I'd like to point out that I'm not saying I'm better than you - I'm saying that we're better than the rest of them. Oh well, I should probably put the glasses back on and stumble out for lunch. I might go smoke a cigarette - I haven't had one in about a year so it might help me put things in perspective.
